The Diaper Bag Diaries - May Flowers

may-couture-colorado

April showers bring May flowers, so the saying goes. But in Colorado, and many other parts of the country, all May has given us is more snow. Banish the bad-weather blahs with a bright new bag! Bold colored accessories lend a psychological boost: the bolder the color, the better the mood. The neon trend has been around for a few seasons now, and the Juicy Couture Baby Tote Bag in Passion Pink keeps you on-trend, while organizing the gear you need. Coordinate with saturated-color accessories and intensely hued baby gear. The pops of color should put a smile on your face, and a little more “Spring” in your step.

Clockwise from Top Left…

(1) Kipling Creativity Basic Pouch in Beach Print

Sometimes, the time you leave the house is dictated less by your appointments, and more by your little one. Keeping a stash of makeup in your diaper bag allows you to take advantage of those precious stop light moments.

(2) Vans Classic Slip-On

Neon slip-ons work for miss or mister, and add a sunny pop to baby steps.

(3) Skip Hop Dunck in Pink/Orange

Bath toys in the diaper bag? These colorful ducks are a favorite for scooping sand, stacking on a table, and “swimming” across the carpet.

(4) Milly Kiera Leather Multi Clutch

Mommyhood often means your diaper bag becomes your everyday bag. A clutch tucked inside, to hold your essential cards, keys, and ID, means its a quick switch when you get to go out shopping sans bebe.

(5) Band-Aid Adhesive Bandages in Neon

Boo-boos have never looked cooler. Stock some neon bandages in your bag for an accidental owie, or use them like stickers when all else fails for a goof-proof distraction.

(6) Sassy Wonder Wheel

Entertain your mini lunch date for the time it takes to sip your latte. Stick the suction cupped base on the table, and never again worry about toys dropped on restaurant floors.

(7) kate spade new york Hello iPhone Case

Face it: you are going to be stuck playing telephone with your toddler over and over anyway. Might as well have your iphone case join you in the “Hello?” game.

(8) Old Navy Denim Jacket

Spring days can go from sunny to chilly in a snap. A neon yellow denim jacket can cover up that floral dress or striped tee to warm up your wee one.

(9) Kid O Go Car Blue

The ingenious, ergonomic top handle on this toy car makes it a kid favorite, the electric blue hue makes it a fashion favorite, and the petite frame makes it a diaper bag favorite. Perfect.

(10) Nine West Handbags Bright Lights iPad Sleeve

Never grab the iPad of your play group mate again when its sporting a shocking lime sleeve. The subtle python texture adds to its allure.

(11) Boogie Wipes Original Fresh Scent

Why is it every time you need a wipe, it is the hardest thing to find in your bag? Bright green and bold orange helps you locate the tool to tackle sticky messes in a flash.

(12) CamelBak eddy Water Bottle

Milk for the baby, toys to entertain the toddler, snacks for the preschooler… don’t forget that a long afternoon out commands a water bottle for momma. This one won’t leak when it is tossed in your bag, and is hard for little hands to spill.

April Diaper Bag Diaries

janine-april

April is Earth Month, so if there is one time of the year to let loose your inner hippie, its now. Why not flaunt a bohemian Boulder style, updated for the 21st century? Choose accessories that are less bell-bottoms and Birkenstocks, more worn-in leather and slightly trippy florals. Everything eco-friendly is in the spotlight, down to your Kalencom Miss Prissy diaper bag. While you are trying out a free-spirited style, be sure to stock your bag with earth-friendly products for the wee one as well.

Clockwise from Top Left…

(1) Anuschka Cell Phone Case

Keep your cell from falling victim to the diaper bag black hole, away from tiny texting fingers, and safe from sticky snacks, all with a crafty leather case.

(2) Camden Rose Cherry Rattle

Babies love rattles. Its a fact. Hold the attention of your little one while waiting for a Dr.’s appointment, and when your infant outgrows it, this beautifully carved cherry wood toy is a cherished keepsake.

(3) The Honest Company Wipes

Thick, soft, luxurious cloth wipes are soft on baby, and gentle on the Earth.

(4) Aviator sunglasses

Aviators never go out of style. That means if Monday you feel preppy, Tuesday boho, and Wednesday feels more rock chic, you’ll be made in the shade… so to speak.

(5) Baby Soy Oh Soy Hats

Snuggle the wee one’s crown in the softest, greenest little beanie, and know that you are keeping the little prince safe from dyes and toxins.

(6) Anuschka Ladies Clutch Wallet

More than just a place to house your Sierra Club Membership card, this leather wallet sports hand-painted peacock plumes and tiny blooms, to make your inner flower-child skip with delight.

(7) Ella’s Kitchen Carrots Apples & Parsnips

You wouldn’t feed your child something you wouldn’t eat yourself, and this tasty snack pouch is chock-full of healthy, organic fruits and veggies. Parsnips are a lesser-known veg, and when combined with sweet, familiar carrots and apples, nudge baby’s palette without too much of a challenge.

(8) The Sak Classic Accessory Medium Cosmetic Bag

A little lip stain, a little cheek color, a little mascara… even if you apply it at a stoplight, a bit of makeup can transform a sleep-deprived mom into a fresh-faced superwoman. Store your stash in this simple cosmetics bag with a trendy Southwest design.

(9) gDiapers gPants in Great Orange

Thought your hybrid car was eco-cool? Try a hybrid diaper. The best of both worlds: a cute cloth diaper, lined with a flushable, compostable, biodegradable liner. Bonus: shop for cheery seasonal colors and limited-edition patterns.

(10) MiYim Organic Good Earth Fairy

Stuffed toys go straight into baby’s mouth. Be sure they are free from toxins with a sweet fairy friend made from organic cotton and non-toxic dyes.

(11) MINU Jewels Turquoise Slice Necklace

Getting out the door with kiddos in tow can be a big event. Once you’ve made it out, and the little ones are behaving, sometimes a quick errand run can morph into an afternoon out or spontaneous play-date. Keeping a statement necklace in your diaper bag instantly dresses up your casual maxi dress, in case you want to sneak in a stop into that chic boutique, or do a quick-change for date night.

(12) Didymos Baby Carrier Organic Wrap Sling - Katja

A bohemian look would not be complete without baby-wearing gear. This striped wrap keeps baby snug, and Mom stylish in stripes.

The Diaper Bag Diaries

janinediaperdiaries

Graphic prints in black and white are huge for spring, and just because you run with the mom squad doesn’t mean your diaper bag can’t rep this trend. A black and white striped bag acts as a neutral, so it matches everything that basic black would, with lots more style. It pairs perfectly with spring florals for a play on mixed patterns, or provides a hip contrast to soft pastels. The structured hobo shape dresses up along side a spring frock, yet fits right in at the park. This Kate Spade Nylon Stripe Denise Hobo Baby Bag is a perfect everyday accessory, filled with on-trend necessities for mom and baby.

Clockwise from Top Left…

(1) Lollacup Innovative Straw Sippy Cup

A sippy for the mom who isn’t into the cartoons taking over, with a leak proof lid to keep the bag clean. The Little Black Dress of kid’s travel cups.

(2) Baby Creases Bandana Bib

Doubles as a hip scarf, and saves the little’s shirts from stains and catches crumbs.

(3) Bloch Baby Shoe

The cap toe trend on some mini ballet flats, recall a classic Chanel look for a little lady. Bonus: shoes “just like Mom’s” are even better than dress-up.

(4) Jellycat Bashful Zebra

A black and white friend from a favorite brand, when your kiddo needs a cuddle away from home.

(5) BUILT Sandwich Bag

Keep sticky snacks like raisins and half-eaten LARA bars from messing up your bag’s lining, or pack a snack for two to nibble after mom & baby yoga.

(6) Lamaze Panda Rattle

A bamboo munching buddy, in a chic and mysterious black masque, entertains your tot until you cross that last item of the to-do list.

(7) Crochet baby blanket

A handmade blanket is a treasured thing. If you don’t have an aunt who is handy with the knitting needles, you can always turn to Etsy. This black and white zig-zag is the perfect  marriage of grandma’s afghan and modern chevron.

(8) Milly tech accessory

Protect your phone from sticky fingers and accidental oopsies in a mod circle print. A little retro, a little graphic, express your personality, and avoid grabbing one of the million other iPhones at your play date.

(9) SugarBooger by O.R.E. Vintage Alphabet Travel Set

A travel kids silverware set allows for an impromptu stop into that bistro with your favorite pint-sized lunch date. The letters help learn ABC’s with a cute little vintage flair.

(10) Kate Spade New York Favorite Things iPad Folio

As if an iPad could be any more appealing to kids, this Kate Spade cover flaunts silhouettes of favorite girly themes. Sunglasses, heels, la Tour Eiffel… what mom loves, so does little miss.

(11) My Animals Board Book

Black and white animal shapes entertain even little eyes, while mom’s animal noise impressions amuse the toddler set.

(12) Nature Baby® for J.Crew knotted beanie

You never know when it will turn chilly, and a striped knotted beanie keeps little heads warm and lends outfits an edge. The stripes subtly match mom’s diaper bag, and neutral black and white coordinate with any outfit.

CamelBak Water Bottles: Perfect For Expecting Moms

CamelBak Water BottlesLast night I was reading the latest issue of one of my pregnancy magazines and I came across an ad for CamelBak water bottles. At first it seemed out of place since typically CamelBak is thought of as an outdoor brand of hydration products for hiking, cycling, running, etc. However, thinking back over the last 5 months, I realized that my CamelBak bottle has indeed been an invaluable tool during my pregnancy - especially here at work. Afterall, as any pregnant woman, doctor, or mother can tell you, drinking water throughout the 9 months is super important for the health of you and baby.

So why CamelBak bottles for expecting moms? Well, for one, they are BPA free - something that’s super important with a little one on the way. Secondly, they are easy to drink from when working at my desk, in meetings, and even on the go in the car. The bite valve allows for easy sipping without tipping, eliminating leaks from the lid and straw area that are common in other bottles. Third, the wide mouth of the bottle is perfect for refilling with ice and water from the machine in our kitchen and makes cleaning a breeze. Finally, the bottle itself is super durable (mine is even made from stainless steel).

So yes, while CamelBak water bottles are ideal for outdoor activities, they are also great for expecting moms who want to stay hydrated at work, home, and on the go.
