Winter Bags

Oh the weather outside is frightful…

It’s snowing today here in Denver. It’s not our first snow. Nope, we got dumped on a few weeks back. But it’s starting to look like we’ll get plenty of the white stuff this season which is great for our local economy (ski tourism).

CamelBak Menace 70oz Winter Hydration Backpack The snow got me thinking about bags one would use in cold weather. Obviously, ski bags and snowboard bags are the most popular category at this time of year. eBags carries a huge selection of ski & snowboard bags including boot bags and wheeled bags from top brands like Dakine, Burton, High Sierra, The North Face, and Swix. But if you’re an avid skiier or snowboarder, you might also find yourself in need of a winter hydration pack. Designed to keep water from freezing in cold temperatures, these backpacks are perfect for keeping you hydrated on the slopes or in the backcountry. Many winter hydration packs also carry skis or boards and other accessories.

Transpack Ice Ice Skating BagThere are other winter bags out there for uses other than skiing and snowboarding. For those who strap on skates for either hockey or ice skating, the Transpack ICE line of backpacks is perfect. These ice skate bags allow you transport your skates and gear to the rink in comfort and style. There’s a large, water resistant central compartment for accessories, clothes, wallet, and other items you want to stay dry while gromments let air in and water out to dry out the compartments that do get wet. Customers rave about how this pack is also perfect for their children’s figure skating gear.

Filson Log Carrier There is still another type of winter bag you can find on eBags and it isn’t for skiing, snowboarding, or skating. In fact, this one isn’t sports related at all. Have you ever found yourself lugging wood into your house or cabin for that roaring fire, wishing there was an easier way that didn’t involve spiders crawling up your arm? Well, there is. Meet the Filson Log Carrier. This carrier is made from rugged 100% cotton twill that is 2 ply by 3 ply and has been paraffin treated for maximum water repellency. The handles are vegetable tanned genuine bridle leather that are sewn and riveted to the fabric body for greater strength. Available in tan and green, this is the truly convenient and stylish way to carry logs.

Stay Cool Feature on the Hottest Packs!

Finally. A cure for keeping your back cool while you are out and about. What is it? Glad you asked. A mesh lining with a suspended backpack. Let me explain. Rather than the entire pack rest on your back causing it to retain heat (and making you uncomfortably warm on your hike or other activities) these great packs allow air to flow between your back and the pack. Wow. It’s already making me cooler. Check these out.

Kelty Radii 27

The Kelty Radii 27 - This sweet day bag features Kelty’s signature ventilated AeroFly™ suspension which allows your back to breathe easier, and release heat. Kelty also carries a women’s specific Radii 27 to better fit a shorter torso.

The Gregory Z 25 Medium - This trendy bag features Gregory’s signature Jet Stream DTS Suspension, which, like the Kelty allows your body heat to escape, and helps to keep you cool. Gregory carries several different models ranging from day packs to backpacking packs, different torso sizes, and each model has different features to best fit your backpacking and hiking needs.

Gregory Z 25 Med

Asolo Sorcerer 33 Daypack

The Asolo Sorcerer 33 Daypack - This technical pack features Asolo’s suspended mesh back with 2 sprung steel stays. Like the Kelty and Gregory packs, this Asolo pack has your back. Asolo carries several models with the suspended mesh back, each with different features for your different activities.

Photography Day-pack.

The Lowepro Sling Shot 100 AW

The Lowepro Sling Shot 100 AW

I recently spend 12 days abroad photographing with a non-profit group in the countryside of Western Mongolia. Aside from trying desperately to pack light while bringing photography equipment, (Light and camera do not go hand in hand) my clothing supply took the hardest hit.  I did not want to skimp on my photography gear. Not when I was about to take the trip of a lifetime, and I wanted to properly document it with my Nikon D700 all without checking any bags.  Packing light meant that my carryon was packed to the brim with clothes, toiletries, granola bars, a sleeping bag liner, a winter hat, gloves, and various other items in anticipation of their cold climate. My camera bag qualified as my “one personal item” that was my remaining option for bags being carried on.

While in the countryside of Mongolia, my camera bag became my day-bag as well. It held my D700 body, 2 lenses, 2 flashes, a zip-lock bag of batteries, a flash diffuser, 8 extra Compact Flash memory cards, an ipod, and enough granola bars to suppress my appetite during the day. It even has a built-in lens cleaning cloth and a rain fly for unpredictable weather. All of this in the compact Lowepro Sling Shot 100 AW. I wouldn’t take another trip without it, and I HIGHLY recommend it to any SLR photographer with extra flashes/lenses to carry. You can easily change the position of the interior partitions to custom fit your gear.

Perfect compartment for granola bars!

Bags to Keep You Ready to Hit the Slopes

For those of you who are avid skiers and boarders, I don’t think I need to remind you that the snow is about to hit the slopes–especially after giant reminders coming from events like Powder Daze, Ski-Rex, and SniaGrab. So hopefully you’ve grabbed your passes and you’re rearing to go this season!

One of the best ways to pick-up and hit the slopes is to have all of your gear in one bag. That way you can grab it, haul it into the car (or plane), and take-off. Here are some nifty bags that can make your snowboarding/skiing season all the more enjoyable.
Transpack TRV Boot and Gear Bag in Red
Transpack TRV Boot & Gear Bag:
This bag is perfect for those of you who are tired of finding a place to store your boots after boarding or skiing. The TRV bag has a separate compartment for your boots with drainage grommets to get rid of any left-over water. It also carries your helmet and other gear. There’s a mesh and fleece compartment for your goggles too. The Transpack TRV is one of the top-rated boot and gear bags on eBags! So if you’re looking for a new way to haul around your gear, check it out!
DC Tamo Wheely Snowboard Bag in Record
DC Tamo Wheely Snowboard Bag: Boarders, take a look! This is one of the most decked out snowboard bags you’ll ever see! The DC Tamo Wheely Bag has compartments for everything that you’ll need for your trip to the slopes. This bag comes with interior shoe and gear pockets, a tool pocket, outer gear pocket, a split main compartment, and a board only sleeve in the top compartment. If you’re the kind of person who likes to keep all of their stuff in one place, this is the way to do it. The bag also comes with skate wheels for a smooth transition. It would be a good bag to use if you plan on trekking through the airport before       you get to hit the slopes.

Sportube Series 3 Snowboard/Multi-Ski Case: Flyers! Don’t despair! The Sportube is here! I know, I know, not Sportube Series 3 Snowboard/Multi-Ski Caseall of us are lucky to have the mountains in our backyard, so to speak. But no worries. There’s still a way for you to haul your snow-gear through the airport, onto the plane, and up to the slopes all in one piece. The Sportube is a high density polyethylene shell that protects one or two snowboards with bindings and boots, or multiple skis with bindings. The sportube can fit any length of equipment and is padded at both ends to protect your gear. It’s also approved to be used with a TSA lock. With this durable, yet light-weight case, you won’t have to worry about your gear getting knocked around. Once you’re on the plane you can sit back, enjoy your peanuts, and fantasize about your soon to be vacation on the slopes.

Tips for Packing Your SnowBoard/Ski Bag:

1. If you have a snowboard bag with no boot-pockets, you can store your boots lying flat on either end of your board when they’re dry. To avoid scratching the board, you can always use any extra clothes or plastic bags you’ve brought with you as dividers.

2. Helmets can also fit in between the bindings on your snowboard. Pack some clothes underneath it to avoid damage.

3. If you’re going a long-ways for for boarding or skiing, it’s always best to have a bag that can safely fit all of your gear. After all, you don’t want to find any damage on your equipment before you’ve even hit the slopes.

4. Try to find a designated pocket for your goggles that will keep them in good shape. If you don’t have one, you can always store your goggles on the inside of your helmet. Just wrap a scarf or extra shirt around them to make sure they stay inside.

5. Pack light! You don’t want to haul TOO much extra stuff around. It’s always best to grab what you need right before you hit the slopes. That way you can leave your bag in the car or in your room without worrying about it disappearing.

Lost In The Tundra With Nothing But My Bag!

If you have read of my posts or have read my bio you have figured out, I’m a geek and proud of it. My wife will tell ya, probably more enthusiastically than I would really appreciate, I’m a nerd and I’m not afraid to show it. I’m a klutz, I have sports issues, mainly I hardly move and gravity is quickly becoming my nemesis. I have a pasty white complexion I have been working on for more than 15 years and I am NOT about to throw all that hard work away by one frivolous day spent in the sun! That’s just crazy talk!

If you are a nerd/geek openly or even inside, you know who you are…*cough* brad *cough*…then you probably know about the best tv show on the planet! The Big Bang Theory. To recap a bit; …….BREATHING IN DEEPLY…..Leonard and Sheldon live as roommates in a nice apartment. They have two friends, Walowitz and Koothrappali. Together, the four of them work together and have a good friendship going, it’s kind of like friends but not really mainly because there are four of them, not six, and well let’s face it, half of them don’t look anything like Rachel and Monica. They’re geeks. They work as super smart geeks at a university and hilarity ensues. There’s too much testosterone in the apartment, *snort* riiiiiight, so they decided to introduce the girl neighbor from across the hall…Penny. Leonard has a thing for Penny, Penny just digs hanging with the guys and together they really make this thing work! The dialogue is killer; it’s like Gilmore Girls for Dudes! AWESOMEEEEE!

Anywho, last season it ended with all four of the geeks going on an expedition to Antarctica to support Sheldon in some crazy string theory study something or other. Penny didn’t want Leonard to go but didn’t tell him so and now this week is the premiere! We get to figure out what happened in Antarctica, I’m betting Walowitz tried to hit on a walrus and Sheldon licked an iceberg and got his tongue stuck to it. Anywho, I started thinking about it a bit and I bet they got some pretty slick winter gear for that expedition. So, I did some digging around on eBags a bit and found some pretty cool bags for the cold.

Beat Down The Polar Bear And Be Fashionable

When any of the four gets in trouble and tries to run for their lives from the rampaging penguins they just tried to feed a Snickers bar to, I’m sure this bag will be handy. It’ll hold all their comic books AND some water so they don’t have to eat snow; which we all know Bear Gryls says is bad and can cause hypothermia.

The North Face Off Chute

Pretty cool bag overall! Complete with the wuss belt, I like to call it anyway, you know when the bag is too heavy so you have to wear the belt to keep it up and on your shoulders. Really slick bag!

I can’t wait ’til this week when the geeks come home and we get to see what happened. I’ll keep you up to date on any cool bags they have when they come home! The Geek Shall Inherit The Earth…

Football Chick Fashion

Littlearth Quilted Tote - Green Bay Packers I love football - especially NFL. I’m not exactly one who can quote stats and knows every player, but I love watching the game. I pay attention to the commentary. I sometimes even yell at the TV more than my husband. My favoite team is Green Bay. It’s somewhat controversial that I don’t like the local team - the Broncos (but not as scandalous as my husband’s love for their sworn enemy - the Raiders).

So as a football chick, how do I celebrate football season? Watching games, football parties, fan apparel (including my cheesehead), and, of course, my football handbag. If you’re not already familiar with Littlearth, they have a whole line of NFL, NHL, and MLB handbags featuring professional team logos. Choose from quilted totes, fabric bags made from authentic jersey, and license plate bags.

Top 4 Soccer Bags

With the leaves beginning to change color and the summer drawing to a close, it can only mean one thing. That’s right; soccer season! And no matter whether its your 5 year old son / daughter who is beginning their first season, or you’re a 15 year veteran of the sport, you need a good duffel to put all the gear in. Which leads me to this give you some of the best soccer bags for the falls season.

Perhaps the closet thing to the “old standby, the Adidas Elite Team Duffel Medium has been the go-to soccer bag for years. Available in practically every color under the sun, the Team Duffel uses an anti-microbial liner to keep smells to a minimum. It also has a wet/dry shoe tunnel and is made from durable 300D polyester. You just can’t go wrong with the Team Duffel soccer bag.

My personal favorite is the Diadora Small Team Bag. Although it is smaller than some of its counterparts, this soccer bag does have an eternal bungee ball net so you can keep the mud out of your bag. The bag itself is made from a durable 210 denier nylon so it won’t rip or tear. This bag is also available in a range of colors.

The Nike Team Training II Medium Duffel is the Cadillac of soccer bags. It’s simply loaded with extras. To start, it has an easy-access water bottle sleeve and wet dry compartment to keep dirty or wet clothes away from other items. It also has separate shoe compartment to keep dirt away from the rest of your gear. To top it all off, this soccer bag has iPod storage pocket and a separate mesh laundry bag so you can throw your laundry right in the wash!

If you want a “be seen” soccer bag, then check out the Nike Ronaldhino Bag. At $150.00, this crafted leather and wax canvas bag is designed by the great Ronaldhino. This bag is really mix between a messenger bags and a soccer bag, as it has features like a padded laptop sleeve and organization/storage areas. It also has an exterior pocket for shoes and padded feet to keep it off the turf. This soccer bag is pretty sweet!

Fall is almost upon us, and that can mean only one thing. Football season! Now most of you are probably wondering why I am writing a blog about football in the handbag section. Well, thanks to Littlearth, you can support your favorite team all throughout the season with their new NFL quilted totes.

That’s right; you can get a Littlearth handbag with almost any team logo you want. I would normally talk about how roomy this handbag is, or nice the quilted fabric is. But let’s be honest, you are not buying this NFL handbag to be practical. You are buying it because your team is better than everyone else’s. So why not prove it and take you team dedication to the next level by sporting a Littlearth NFL handbag.
