What Is It?
Freebird is the ultimate “peace of mind” travel companion: a mobile rebooking tool that allows you to instantly rebook a delayed or canceled flight with any airline for free in 30 seconds. This service saves travelers hours of stressful time wasted waiting in line or on hold with the airline trying to get a flight rebooked. We’ve all been victim of a delayed or canceled flight. It isn’t fun. Now there is an app that empowers us to never let an airline delay or cancellation ruin our travel plans again!
How Does It Work?
Freebird will alert you instantly via text message if and when your flight is canceled or delayed by more than four hours, or if you will miss a connection due to a delay. Rebooking is only a few taps within the app: open the alert, tap to select a new flight, and confirm your selection. You must have access to SMS text messages through your phone in order for Freebird to work.
Freebird is available for a flat fee of $19 for a one-way flight and $34 for a roundtrip flight. In the future, pricing will vary flight-by-flight. You can purchase this service anytime after you confirm your itinerary, and up to two days prior to departure.
Currently, the service is only available for domestic US flights, but stay tuned for International expansion!
Our Favorite Part
One day ago I stood helplessly in the airport. My flight had already been delayed on the tarmac for 3+ hours, and finally, they took us back to the gate because our crew had hit their maximum hours and couldn’t fly from LGA to DEN. They said it could take several additional hours to locate a crew and get the flight ready, otherwise, the flight would ultimately be canceled. I was tired, sad, and didn’t have a plan. I was on hold with the airline, which the recorded voice kept reminding me could be up to a 45 minute wait, and I was trying to decide whether or not to desert my luggage (which was still on the flight) and go all the way back through security to see if I could get on another flight. We’ve all been there. Freebird is the service you hope you don’t need to use, but you’d consider a priceless investment on your part when you do need to use it. Freebird may not be required for each flight you take, but our favorite part is just knowing it exists. Travelers now have the option to protect their sanity for important events like weddings, client meetings, holidays, life events, conferences, or just getting home to your family. Now, that’s important!
