Camera Bags for the Photographer
It seems that all that’s ever on my mind nowadays is bags, bags, bags. And today, I happened to run into a friend who has found a successful niche in the world of photography. It so happens that the first question I asked him wasn’t: How are you liking it? What kind of pictures do you take? What’s your favorite photograph?
But rather, what kind of bag do you use? I know, it was a little heartless of me to throw that question on him before all else. Yet the answer I received was worth the insensitivity. He told me that in photography, there are four things you worry about before all others: yourself, your lens, your camera, and your bag. Then you can worry about the other stuff.
He specialized in outdoor photography, which meant that he was constantly on the go. So he needed easy access to his camera for those quick shots, while also not having to worry about his supplies being damaged. After all, any given photographer could be carrying thousands of dollars worth of photography materials. Which made investing in a decent camera bag worth the while.
We sat down at a computer and I quickly pulled up eBags and asked him for his personal opinion. As a photographer, what kind of bag would you invest in?
Being a photographer in the outdoor setting, he told me he preferred a backpack or messenger bag style for easy access. And durability for all the times that he’s banged his bags against rock outcroppings while climbing cliffs.

So he settled on two bags that he would personally use for his photography outings.
“As an outdoor photographer, you can’t be lugging around a bunch of gear. It gets in the way. But you also can’t run back to your car every time you want to take a picture. Then you’ll miss the shot. Which means you have to pack light.”
Which is why he settled on a medium size version of the Crumpler’s messengers. The bag is water resistant and has just enough room for his basic photography supplies.

OGIO Atiba Mini: Browsing through the ‘camera backpacks‘ section of the site, I have to say that my friend became a little entranced by this OGIO Atiba Mini. Personally, I was a little mesmerized too, but only because of my favoritism revolving around OGIO bags.
He said it would be the “perfect” bag for his short AND lengthy outings. It had enough room to carry all of his supplies, especially with the removable dividers and the tripod carry strap system. The laptop sleeve wasn’t a necessity, but it was definately nice to have. His personal favorite was the audio pocket and headphone exit port. Which I found amusing.
His argument was that sometimes it was hard to find a good camera bag that also supplied your thirst for music.
I must say that by the time I left him at his computer, I’m fairly certain that his mouse was hovering over the “Add to Cart” button.
So if you’re a photographer and you’re in the market for finding a new camera bag, don’t forget to check-out eBags “Camera Bags and Cases” section. It’s sure to have what you’re looking for, no matter what kind of photgrapher you are.
