Choosing Children’s Luggage
What factors should be considered when choosing children’s luggage?
Choosing the best type of luggage for your child depends on several factors, including: the child’s age, size, temperament and travel timing.
- Size matters. The size of the child and the size of the suitcase should coincide. A small child can’t lug a loaded duffel or tote bag very far. However, most young children can maneuver a small rolling suitcase without strain along corridors and sidewalks. Children’s wheeled backpacks are a good travel choice. Disney’s Wheeled Backpacks features fun styling with themes for boys or girls. Shoulder straps and wheels with a pull-up handle offer alternative carrying options.
- Age matters. Young children are usually thrilled with colorful, themed kid luggage. Wildkin is always a hit with younger boys and girls. Older children, especially pre-teens and young teens, are the backpack generation and the most important factor for them is carrying a cool bag. For the older-younger generation, Disney Luggage is a popular choice.
- Temperament matters. If your child is in the “I’ll do it myself” mode, great, let them. Overlook complaints and praise their independence. On the contrary, if independence and patience are not your child’s forte, choose kids luggage that can be strapped or stacked on your wheeled carry-on bag just in case independence evaporates midway along that long airport concourse.
- Travel modes matter. Long travel days with quick flight connections in large airports require much more preparation and different luggage choices than a quick one hour flight with no connections or a trip by car.
