Even if you’re not traveling with your yoga mat, you can still embrace the practice. Strive to live a better life and develop your own personal yoga practice that you can take with you anywhere you go. That’s what’s so beautiful about yoga – you can do it anywhere, anytime.
You’d be surprised how often you can incorporate yoga into your trip experience – starting with the moment you step foot in the airport.
Yoga in the Airport
The good news is athleisure is in! This means it’s never been cooler to look like you’ve been working out. And we all know “leggings are the new denim.” So, go ahead and wear yoga clothes to the airport and do a few moves while you wait for your flight. This spring we’ve partnered with Soybu to help you stay cool and comfortable in yoga gear, whether you’re at the studio or at the airport. We recommend at least having a go-to pair of yoga pants and tank with you at all times, preferably on your body. For a limited time shop Soybu and get 15% off all active-wear and gear (ends 05/07/16).
There are a few easy poses you can do while standing at security line or waiting in the boarding area. We recommend big toe pose, eagle pose, and chair pose. If you’re feeling adventurous and have a bit of space, try dancer pose! Your inner goddess will thank you.
Yoga in the Sky
All of us know what it’s like to be crammed in the middle seat, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get the most out of your airtime experience.
If you’re in a chair in the air – you can still embrace the practice with these 3 techniques:
- Meditate: Learn to be present and channel your awareness. Create an intention for your trip and try to focus on the underlying goal and purpose of your travel.
- Breathe: As you inhale, lengthen your spine and allow your thoughts to escape with the clouds. Take 3 to 5 deep breaths, allowing your shoulders to release every muscle. Closely study the rhythm of your breathing patterns, concentrating only on the total being of your existence.
- Stretch: To stretch your back, practice seated spinal twists. Twisting poses rotate the spine and stretch your back muscles, leaving you feeling clean, clear, and refreshed.
If you’re on a longer flight, take every chance you can get to get up and go to the back of the plane and do some poses. We recommend the dangle pose, standing bend pose, and revolved chair pose.
Yoga in the Hotel Room
Once you’ve made it to the hotel, designate a space that will be your new yoga place. Go ahead, use a bathroom towel as your mat (room service will always bring more).
Stretching your muscles is so rewarding and devoting even 10 minutes to channel your thoughts can seriously help reduce your stress and relieve anxiety while in an unfamiliar place.
If you’re busy traveling and can’t hit up a studio, you can always bring the studio to you! Download a yoga app on your phone and take classes anywhere you go! We love the yoga studio app! It’s perfect for hotel room yoga goodness.
